United Methodist Women receive 5 Star Giving Award

Twenty-three UMW members attended their annual Christmas Party at the home of Lisa Wickins on Monday, Dec. 13.

A pot luck dinner was served and exchanging of prayer angel gifts was done. There was a brief business meeting with the announcement of our Akron Unit receiving the 5 Star Giving Award for the year 2015.

United Methodist Women’s funds are sent to the national office through district and conference treasurers for use in collective mission work of all United Methodist Women here and around the world. There are five channels of giving and when all channels have been done the 5 Star Giving Award is given to that Unit. The channels of giving are: Pledge to Mission– we gave $2200.00 in 2015. World Thank Offering-we gave $100.00 this year.

Special Mission Recognition-we honored Sue Nicholas for all the various work she does for our church mission with a $40.00 gift to mission.

Gift to Mission: we honored Sandy Pattison for her work with Family Promise with $25.00 gift and last, a Gift in Memory-gave $25.00 in memory of Helen Kraatz for her many years as our recording secretary. We will receive a certificate of this accomplishment in the near future.

Since our last newsletter our UMW promoted Operation Christmas Child by collecting and sending 18 “shoe boxes” with gifts for this organization which is run by Franklin Graham .   This organization distributes these gifts to 102 countries. Each box will contain pamphlets telling the message of Jesus making each one a missionary.

We also joined in the work for the Seneca Street Church by collecting items from their Wish List. These were sent along with the dinner that our church took to them in November.
