The UMW had two guests at their meeting in March, Kim and Toby Mansfield, from Lockport CARES . This agency is a transitional homeless shelter started by a coalition of area churches in response to a need for this type of service.
Our local UMW Unit wanted to learn more about their work so we could promote a collection drive for needed supplies. On Saturday. April 16, these supplies were taken to The Gift Day event sponsored by the Niagara Frontier District UMW. Gift Day was held at the Eden UMC. There were 10 different agencies as projects for Units to choose from. We chose Lockport Cares since it was new on the list, and our local church as been involved in homeless shelters with our history working with Family Promise.
Three of our members attended the Gift Day event enjoying the fellowship of other Unit members, and hearing Moly Golando , the guest speaker. We thank everyone in our congregation who contributed to the success of this project.
Coming up on May 14 , is our district’s annual Morning Apart program. It will be at Amherst Asbury UMC. The program will be about “Go Ministries “ and UMCOR work, presented by Pastor Katie Zettle.
All UMW in the Niagara Frontier District are invited and guests are always welcome. See Carol Webster if you are interested in attending.
