We
believe that worship is an integral part of the life of a
follower of Jesus Christ, for we were created by God and for
God’s pleasure and are told in the Word of God that God delights
in the praises of his people.
We further believe that worship
is more than just an opportunity for us to get right with God
and be refreshed for the week to come, but in some mysterious
way connects us with God’s story of redeeming his creation.
Every worship service is
designed to participate in God’s story and to bring pleasure to
his heart.
Beginning Sunday,
September 7th we will offer two distinct worship
services every Sunday.
Ancient-Future Service
– Sundays, 8:15am-9:15am
God’s story is bigger than
us. Though we’re included in it, and we are given meaning and
truth through it, the story that God has been writing since the
inception of the world goes beyond this time, this world, and
this church. We are all a part of a much larger story, one
ordained and nourished by the triune God.
The Ancient-Future Service at
Akron FUMC is an attempt to grasp this immense concept. By
practicing traditions from the ancient church and fusing them
with a more modern approach to song and the arts, we endeavor to
convey the deeper connection that exists between the modern
Christian and those who have gone before us. By using more
modern songs, a greater use of the arts, along with prayers and
practices from the ancient church, our Ancient Future service
provides a time of worship that is both experiential and
engaging, but more importantly one that is transformational.
Classical Service
– Sundays, 10:30am-11:30am
Often known as “traditional
worship,” our classical worship service offers the opportunity
for those who appreciate time-honored customs, music, choirs,
and rituals to participate in a more conventional style of
worship.
The Classical Service at Akron
FUMC incorporates traditions and rituals well known by many and
celebrates the great hymns of the faith. It also features a
choir, occasional chimes, and soloists.
We ordinarily celebrate Holy
Communion on the first Sunday of every month. Our table is open
to
everyone
who professes Jesus Christ as Savior and Lord even if for the
first time when they come. Children are also encouraged to
participate even from a young age as we believe communion is a
part of the journey of discipleship.
We celebrate the seasons of
Advent, Christmas, Epiphany, Lent, Easter, and Pentecost. You
can expect a sermon that is biblically based and which will
engage your heart, mind, and soul.
